Sleep Pressure

Adenosine
A naturally occurring molecule that accumulates in the brain during wakefulness and signals the body that sleep is needed. Caffeine works by temporarily blocking adenosine receptors, which is why it suppresses feelings of sleepiness.
Circadian Rhythm

Sleep Latency

Hypnagogic State
